When I Can't See, You Do

And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha --2 Kings 6:17

It was a typical week for Jeremy. He woke up with work deadlines to meet, bills to pay, family members to pray for, and problems he needed answers for. Honestly for Jeremy it just didn’t make any sense to him, he had been asking God to make a way and in every direction he turned, there seemed to be no answer. In fact for Jeremy his life seemed to be at a stand-still. He wanted to move from where he was but just couldn’t seem to put one foot in front of the other for fear that he might walk in the wrong path. What was he to do?

Revelation from God is the best gift we can get from God because when we can see with the eyes of God and hear with the ears of God we are attune with His instructions and His commands. We don’t have to wander about aimlessly, we don’t have to remain in a state of confusion or bewilderment, but we are focused, we are determined, and we are certain of His voice. We know that His sheep hear His voice and another they will not follow, so we don’t have to question the Holy Spirit. But in order to know the Holy Spirit we must have discernment, we must see our lives as God has destined it to be and not as our flesh desires it to be.

Here in this passage of scripture Elisha and his servant were surveying the enemy camp, in fact the servant had seen that the city was encamped by the enemy with many horses and chariots—he wondered how they were ever going to be victorious. The servant could not see that God had provided a way of escape for them that would prove Him to be his Banner. He could not see how God was going to bring him out, but when the prophet of God prayed that he might see the hand of God at work in his situation, his eyes were opened and he could see the protection of God, and at that moment he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that the battle belonged truly to the Lord.

Much like the young man who couldn’t see the hand of the Lord in His situation, are we. We too, fall prey to this scenario where we are looking only with our natural eyes at what a situation looks like, but Elisha knew God, and when we know God we know to seek Him. As such we must ask God open our eyes to our own situations, we must ask God to show us the way out so that we can follow His direction. Rest assured, God will open our eyes, but when we ask Him to open our eyes, we must ask believing, just as Elisha did and know that He will show us the way.

Often times we don’t see because we really don’t believe God can show us and sometimes we really just don’t want to see the answers He gives us. In those moments, we must pray that God remove any unbelief and any unwillingness to yield to His way. Today let us ask God to open our eyes to His solutions for our lives, for He holds our tomorrow in His hands!
