Joan took the long way home one day. Instead of walking along the busy streets filled with cars honking, buses stopping, and fellow walkers pushing, she opted to take the more scenic route. She took the path less traveled, filled with trees rustling, birds chirping, rain falling, and the sound of the soft wind howling. With each step that she took she heard, saw, and felt the presence of the Lord. In those moments she was reminded of the unmerited favor of God in her life.
When she heard the trees rustle she remembered the time she heard God's voice keeping her from danger. When she saw the birds chirping, she remembered that even in the midst of a storm there is something to sing about. When she felt the wind across her face she remembered that even when she can't see God, He's moving on her behalf.
In 1 Corinthians 15:10, we are reminded that we are who we are by the grace of God. Moreover we're reminded that it was not by our own works or labor why we are where we are today. Much like Joan, we get caught up with the hustle and bustle of life and may even think that we have accomplished some small feat on our own, when in reality we haven't and we cannot.
In those moments when life is moving too fast, we have to slow down and remember why we're even standing: the grace of God. Walking in grace requires us to take the road less traveled: the narrow one, which reminds us we have been given the gift of grace through Christ. So today let us learn to walk in His grace, always remembering to give Him the glory.
