Lonely but never Alone

Karen felt so alone. She had a husband, children, and even a few friends but she still felt so alone. Why? Well, for starters she couldn't depend on her husband because he simply wouldn't communicate with her and she felt rejection every time she reached out to him. Her children were all at least eighteen and lived their own lives, barely checking in with the woman who fed, clothed, and nurtured them. Her friends were busy with their own lives and she was to embarrassed to tell them that after all the years of loving her husband, she still remained in a loveless marriage. As a result she was alone.

Loneliness will meet each of us at one point or another in life. Many of us think we can escape this dreaded feeling by just simply finding someone to be next to at night, but so many of us discover that marriage and relationships are not immune to loneliness. In fact how much harder was it for Karen to have someone and still feel so lonely.

The bible records in Luke 5:16 that Jesus often withdrew himself to lonely places to pray (NIV). Sometimes these places were the wilderness other times the mountain all because he wished to be in a place by himself with His Father. Moreover Jesus reminded us in Matthew 7:14 that, "strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." In other words walking along this Christian path will get lonely at times because our we can't walk with many down a narrow path at least not side by side.

As a result we will feel the pain and the pinch when others aren't with us, even those closest to us at times, but that's o.k. because we must use those moments to draw closer to God in prayer. We must glean from His word power and strength when we feel most empty as He is the only one who can fill us in times like these.

No there's no escaping loneliness, but remember we're never alone as God said He would never leave us nor forsake us! Today allow seasons of loneliness to be an opportunity to draw closer to God and gain deeper revelation of who He is and who you are to Him! He's simply perfecting greatness in you for such a time as this!
