When My Strength Isn't Enough

Timothy found himself struggling to lift a 250lb bag. This puzzled Timothy as he had been training his body for years to lift weights. Although Timothy had been lifting weights for years and sometimes weights greater than 200lbs, he failed to realize that he had a spotter to help him lift at times. Failing to lift the bag, wounded Timothy's ego as he didn't want to ask for help.Deep down, he really wanted to feel like he can handle the weight all on his own--his pride didn't want to think otherwise. Reluctantly, he asked his friend Paul to help him carry the 250lb bag to the car. Within seconds, Timothy and Paul carried out the same task that had taken Timothy at least the last half hour to accomplish.

How about us? How many of us struggle to take on tasks all by ourselves just because we want to take all the credit or because we want to accomplish things in our own strength. Unfortunately, God didn't design us to live life without the help or assistance of others. In fact He particularly designed us to NEED Him for everything.

Much like Timothy, we attempt to face life in our own strength. We somehow believe that if we get enough education, make enough money, find the right person, live in the right area, and surround ourselves with the right crowd, we'll always be able to make it on our own; but then life happens and we face that humbling moment where we have to ask for help because we cannot do it in our strength. Why? Because God wants us to recognize His power, His strength, and His help.

Zechariah 4:6 reminds us that it's not by our might, nor by our strength but by His spirit that we can accomplish the tasks set before us. His word also reminds us that He sent the Comforter or the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us into all truth so we don't have to walk blindly through life or even on our own. See God knew that we would need help one day and that we would try to lift a weight that was just too heavy for us like pain, depression, sleeplessness, restlessness, bitterness, hatred, envy, poverty, distress and stress, etc. He knew that in times like these we would have to call for help and ultimately on Him for strength and power because we cannot lift that weight on our own. Like Timothy, when we humble ourselves and call on Him for the help we need we'll find that the weight is lifted faster than we realize it!

Today remember to humble yourself and rely on His spirit to pull you through life's difficulties as there are some things we'll never be able to do without recognizing His awesome power and strength!
