"Clash!" That's the sound of a glass jar shattering into many pieces. If we listen closely enough, it's also the sound of life, breaking us. How does life break us? Well life breaks us when we lose loved ones, it breaks us when the unexpected happens and we're disappointed, it breaks us when we struggle financially, it breaks us when we can't seem to advance at home or on the job, it breaks us when we don't get what we want when we want it, it breaks us when uncertainty hangs over our heads, it breaks us when our own family abandons us, and it breaks us when we look up and somehow it appears as if God doesn't hear our hearts' cries. Yes when life breaks us we can find ourselves shattered just like that glass jar, but unlike that glass jar we can be put back together again.
We may ask, "how can I be put back together?" That's a valid question as often times when we are in pieces we certainly are not living in peace; but having an attitude of peace is similar to the glue that holds us together. Where can we get this peace? This peace comes by none other than through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit resides within when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Through that relationship we have access to God, our Father reminding us that He is always with us and when we focus on His word, we are encouraged to know that He gives us a peace that no man can understand.
Paul, the Apostle, knew that we would need that peace as life can get tough as he often encouraged us through the word not to grow weary in well doing and as such he prayed that God would always give us peace in all things found in 2 Thessalonians 3:16. Paul, understood the importance of having peace in every situation and more importantly that, that peace could only come from God. Too often we look to other people, places, or things for peace, when in actuality it is a gift from God that we must choose to live in.
We all have choices to make, but why choose disorder, chaos, sadness, and brokenness, when we can have love, peace and joy through the Holy Spirit. Yes, the kingdom of God is at hand and Christ reminded us in John 16:33 that in Him we are guaranteed peace, but that in this world we will undoubtedly have tribulation. In a day where the world seems to be filled with hate, bitterness, sadness, and brokenness it is solely up to us to choose to live in peace and not pieces. Let the peace of Christ fill your heart today and be broken no more!
