Make Me

Nikki ventured out one day and decided to take a pottery class. She thought it would be didn't, fun, and exciting. While taking the class was all of those things and much more, she didn't realize or anticipate that it would be challenging, difficult, or frustrating. How did this happen?

Nikki failed to realize that molding clay on top of the potter's wheel took much more patience and calculation than ever conceived. For one, the clay had to be centered, secondly the clay was hard and often needed water to soften it, thirdly she had to control the exact speed of the wheel (there were times she needed to go faster and other times where she had to slow it down), and lastly she had to determine the depth of the vessel she was creating (if she went to deep or wide it could fall apart).

Much like Nikki, God's job is not as easy as we think. Why? Because we are hard and tough just like that clay. Our hearts are often hardened to what He has to say and only the water of His word will soften our stony hearts. Moreover we have to be centered in His will which can only take place once we've opened our heart to receive His word. Sometimes even when we've been walking with God for a long time we become misaligned and need repositioning which isn't often easy especially when it calls for change on our part. More importantly molding clay takes time and precision. God knows when we need something right away and sometimes He sends it quickly but other times He sees how we can fall apart if we're not ready to receive all that He has for us. Lastly God knows exactly what He put in us and would never put more on us than we can bare so He makes sure His word is embedded deep within us before He can trust us with certain tasks or responsibilities.

Jeremiah 18:6 said it best as God reminded us that we are His clay and He can do as He pleases with us. We may not always like the process but we are sure to embrace the finish product when He is done. Today let us allow God to make us into what He wants us to be and not what or who err think we should be!
