Quiet My Surroundings

Zach's radio was on so loud that he couldn't hear his mother calling out to him to answer the phone. To Zach it didn't seem like a big deal that he couldn't hear his mother, but what he failed to realize was that the missed call was actually a job opportunity that his mother had been waiting on. As a result of missing the call, his mother missed the opportunity to interview and thus missed a chance of a financial break through to help put Zach through college. Unfortunately Zach had to miss yet another semester of college.

The chain of events that took place with Zach can happen to us when we miss the small still voice of God. What may seem as "no big deal" at first can result in missed opportunities and subsequent delays all because we have surrounded ourselves in a noisy environment unable to hear God.

1 Kings 19:12 reminds us that God's voice is not hidden in earthquakes or fires but rather it is still and quiet. Why? Because God wants us to distinguish His voice from the world which is filled with so many noisy distractions. These distractions are nothing but a trick of the enemy to keep us from arriving at the place God has predestined for us. As such it is important to quiet ourselves and our surroundings so we can hear God.

Today let us remove distractions out of the way so we can hear God and move into the promises He has set aside for us!
