I Was Wrong, I'm Sorry

Little Johnny did it again. He found himself in that cookie jar once again after being repeatedly told that he could not have any cookies unless given permission. Johnny being only the ripe age of four (4), could not understand why his mother kept him from eating such sweet treats. What Johnny, however, couldn't possibly understand or know at his tender age, was that his father was diabetic and his grandfather was as well, so Johnny staying out of the cookie jar now was just  his mother's way of protecting him from what she knew his fate could possibly be if she didn't curb his eating habits now. His mother, annoyed, could not possibly help but smile to herself because in spite of his disobedience, Johnny said these magic words, with cookies smeared all over his face, "I'm sorry mommy, I won't do it again, don't be mad!"

Many of us are just like little Johnny where we somehow always find ourselves in the cookie jars of life that God has asked us to stay clear from. We often find ourselves going ahead and taking cookies that we ought not take and not because one day God may not grant us that very cookie we've been salivating to taste, but because we grow impatient and want that cookie now to satisfy our taste. The problem is, much like Johnny, we can't see what lies ahead because well we don't have God's perspective or his foresight and as a result we make decisions that are often costly; but God, much like Johnny's mother cannot help but shake His head, most likely, and forgive us when we come with the heart of humility and simply say: "I'm sorry Lord, help me to stay the course you have predestined for me."

Jesus said in Matthew 18 that unless we turn and become like little children we will never enter into the kingdom of heaven,  for whoever humbles himself like a child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Jesus understood that children aren't worried about being right or wrong, they just know that when they've done something to hurt someone, they are quick to repent. Adults, however, often struggle with this concept because of pride and other hangups that often get in the way of moving forward, which prevent them from ultimately humbling themselves and admitting their wrongs. The kingdom of heaven is waiting on individuals who don't mind being wrong so that He can be right within. The Spirit of God makes us right and without Him we fail daily, so when we ask for forgiveness we simply remind God how much we need Him even the more.

Johnny needs his mother and cannot make it through to the next day without her love and guidance, we're no different in the eyesight of God, as we are His children. So why go through life without His love and guidance which are fundamental in living this life! Today let us seek to humble ourselves and admit when we are wrong not only to God, but to others as well. Allow His peace to guide you today!
