What Have You Done for Him Lately

Julie had been working as a waitress for years. She took countless orders, attended to many disgruntled patrons, and cleaned up many spills and broken glasses. It was never too much for her to stay behind late, cover a shift for another person, or even fill in other areas like hosting or in the kitchen itself. One day her manager asked her to to take a seat at table after the restaurant closed. Each of her co-workers, including her manager took her order and served her for a job well done.

How many of us can say we are living a life of service like Julie? Often times we take on an attitude of "what have you done for me lately" when in actuality we need to say, "what haven't I done for you lately." Service requires a mindset of humility because we must become less to become more.

Jesus had this same attitude. Mark 10:45 reminds us that Jesus did not come to be served not to serve others as demonstrated by the giving of His life. How humble as Jesus that He valued our eternal life more than His natural life! Jesus never considered himself too great to serve even the least of them as He ministered to the lame, the dumb, the blind, the weak, the poor, the destitute and the sinner.

Likewise we must be like Jesus, serving without recognition or notoriety, as our reward is in heaven. Julie grasped that concept as she never looked for a raise or promotion but when it was her time all they could say ed job well done. Jesus is waiting to say well done my good and faithful servant. Will you serve Him until you hear those words?

Today look to serve rather than be served.
