A Disciplined Life

Starting the New Year off right can be a challenge to many with resolutions, goals, aspirations, hopes, wishes, wants, dreams, and desires, looming over our heads. In fact the year ahead can be quite intimidating when those goals, dreams, and aspirations seem bigger than life. Faced with these overwhelming thoughts, the onus really falls on the individual to become what they want to realize.

How do we achieve this? Tamara asked the same question. She wanted so desperately to lose weight and not just physical weight. She wanted to lose emotional baggage she had accumulated over the years of taking on the burdens of others and she wanted to be rid of the mental weight she gained from stressing over matters that were out of her control. All of these weights, however, would continue to make her heavy unless she did something different.

1 Corinthians 9:27 instructs us to bring the body under subjection, or rather discipline the body like an athlete, training it to do what it should, as to not disqualify ourselves from the race by preaching to others what we ourselves aren't willing to do. In other words whenever we want to change ourselves for the better we have to train our bodies, minds, and souls to follow change. Often times it's easier to see change for others, but not ourselves as it calls for a disciplined life which is often easier said than done. But, what change do we follow? The change hidden in the word of God and we follow this word daily just like an athlete training to win.

This year we want to win, but it will take great discipline to accomplish this. God has equipped us with the Holy Spirit to discipline our every move so that we will be victorious in the end. Today don't beat at the wind aimlessly, but aim with precision to win the race before you. Lose every weight that hinders you by grabbing hold of a disciplined life through Christ Jesus!
