Setting My Mind On You...

Catrina's mind was everywhere. On any given day she would get lost in her thoughts as she would often escape into the corners of her mind to escape the burdens of her reality. Lately Catrina had been battling depression as she reflected over her life and was completely dissatisfied with her accomplishments. In fact in her mind, it was more like, "what accomplishments?" This painful realization took her to some deep dark places that she couldn't seem to stop thinking about. What was she to do?

Perhaps we have experienced moments, much like Catrina, in our lives where we just can't seem to shake our thoughts as they become overbearing and daunting. Day in and day out we dwell on tasks to accomplish, goals to set, and items we haven't quite checked off. In these moments our minds are screaming for a mental break, rest, and honestly a resolution.

Colossians 3:1 instructs us to set our minds on things above and not on the cares of this world. Why? Well God knew that the pressures, demands, standards, and heartaches of this world would be many and that if we focused on any one of them for any length of time it would ultimately consume us. As a result He sent His word to remind us that life, true life, cannot be lived concentrating on the affairs of this world. No in fact real living can only begin when we make up in our minds to focus on His will and His way.

When we concentrate on God's word somehow pain seems more manageable, lack feels more bearable, and the impossible much more attainable, all because God's word reassures us that we are in fact built and equipped for this. More importantly that He's with us no matter what we may face and that we don't have to go it alone.

So next time you find your mind wandering off on things that are simply out of your control remember to think on His word so that you may be at peace with whatever you may be currently facing. God is not slack concerning His promises; His word will hold true. Simply set your mind on Him!
